Description:Responsible for performing specialized skilled electrical tasks pertaining to fire alarm systems. Duties include establishing and maintaining fire alarm testing and inspection programs, assuring all fire alarm systems have passed inspection, establishing a training program to assure proper operation of fire alarm systems, monitoring inspection schedules, and initiating minor repairs to fire alarm systems. The Technician works independently on routine projects and uses specialized tools and testing instruments of the electrical trade.

•Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade.

•Knowledge of blueprints and electrical diagrams.
•Knowledge of local electrical codes effective in the county.

•Ability to inspect, test and make minor repairs to fire alarm systems.

•Ability to locate defects in a variety of fire alarm systems.

•Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

•Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches and electrical diagrams.

•Skill in the care and use of standard tools, equipment and testing instruments of the electrical trade.

•Skill in the diagnosis of electrical malfunctions.
•Install, diagnose and repair/replace wiring, devices and both analog and digital control panels for fire alarm systems.

•Maintain and repair smoke and heat detectors, magnetic door holders, and fire alarm system components, including circuit cards, power supplies, and software.

•Perform regular system inspections to correct deficiencies and trouble indications.

•Oversee and ensure the proper completion of work when performed and assisted by assigned Helpers and/or Laborers.

•Maintain accountability and inventory for assigned tools and equipment.

•Administer and coordinate the work performed by contractors on the repair and service of fire alarm systems.

•Diagnose existing system programming, hardware and software.

•Respond to emergency service calls as necessary.

•Manages fire alarm testing and inspection programs, performs manual alarm tests and issues appropriate reports.

•Assures all fire alarm systems have passed inspection. Confirms that inspection schedules are kept and that facilities are notified of impending inspections.

•Recommends and initiates minor repairs to fire alarm systems.

•Must have NICET level II certification


Qualifications:Must have relevant experience in the HVAC industry. NICET Level II Certification a must. Must be proficient in all duties and responsibilities described above.
